I have used dandruff shampoo for most of my life. It seems as though I have tried most of the dandruff shampoos that exist. Though it seems like some of them occasionally work, they do not seem to work all the time. Consequently, I have used Head & Shoulders literally for decades. When the opportunity came to try a new dandruff shampoo, I was all for it.
The very first thing I noticed about this shampoo is that it seems very thick, much thicker than any shampoo I can recall using. I tried trusty Head & Shoulders for comparison a couple of times. My perception seems to be reality. Clear Men Scalp Therapy shampoo is noticeably, pleasurably thicker than Head & Shoulders shampoo.
The next thing I wondered about is the smell. Head & Shoulders smells like - well - shampoo. While the smell is relatively mild, it is nothing special. In contrast, I think Clear Men Scalp Therapy has a pleasant fragrance. I did have to hold the shampoo close to my nose to smell it because the smell is not overly strong and does not fill a room with its odor, which is a positive attribute in my mind.
I could say something about how well the shampoo cleans, but it cleans like shampoo. My hair felt soft and clean, which is how it should feel. It also felt clean a second day after I used it.
The magic question with respect to this shampoo is how well it does with respect to dandruff. Well, it seems to work about the same as Head & Shoulders. Since the dandruff-fighting ingredient in Clear Men Scalp Therapy is the same ingredient that is in Head & Shoulders, it should hardly be surprising that both shampoos work the same with respect to fighting dandruff.
This shampoo also has a bunch of miscellaneous stuff that falls under the heading of nutrients and botanicals. I am unable to tell much about the effectiveness of these various ingredients. The ingredients sound impressive, but your hair is dead and I am unsure as to the effectiveness of fertilizing your skin.
There remains one important aspect to this shampoo, and that is price. After comparing the price of this shampoo to my standby, Head & Shoulders, I have concluded that this shampoo is relatively expensive. I looked at several sizes of Head & Shoulders and without pulling out a calculator, it seems like this shampoo is about 50% more expensive than Head & Shoulders, give or take 10 or 20%. I love the thickness of the shampoo and the smell, but I am unable to justify the price. I know more expensive shampoos exist, but think about it, shampoo is essentially soap for your hair. I struggle to think one soap that costs approximately 50% more than another soap is really worth 50% more unless the more expensive shampoo does something magical. I am missing the magic here.
Shampoo serves a useful and important function. Dandruff shampoo serves two important functions, cleaning your hair and reducing or eliminating the dry skin that is dandruff. This shampoo does the first quite well and the second about as well as Head & Shoulders. The only question I have is whether a shampoo significantly more expensive than another shampoo is value added in my life, or any other person's life.
